Another day.
Another day with a 5 a day With Jay. Sorry. I need another day. Until next time…here is a picture of a hummingbird I took.

Sunday Update
Hey Gang.
I’ve spent a good chunk of the past couple of weeks doing non-writerly work. Form cleaning up all my print books and ebooks, to scheduling all work I have already completed. As well as preparing some ebooks to go wide.
It’s been quite an effort. One that, many may ask, is it worth the effort to do all of this?
I’ve answered this question before and this isn’t something I expect to get rich doing. Would I love for one of my books/series to be a break out hit and make me a lot of money? Of Course! I’d like nothing better.
Sitting here, putting 9 of my books up on Draft2Digital, Barnes and Nobel, and Kobo, I can’t help but wonder, why am I going through all of this. I’m thinking what a pain the a couple of these sites are to get my books uploaded and do all the configuration. It’s taken me a few hours over a couple of days.
It’s nothing but time. What else am I going to do? Watch Llamagedon (which I did and it’s hilarious). In fact, I had it going while doing the uploads.
What I’m saying, is if I don’t give this a shot, I’ll never know if it was worth it financially. What I do know, is that if I find even one more reader on each platform, it was worth all that time. I don’t claim to be the best writer, but I’m having fun at what I’m doing and hopefully, others are having fun reading my books as well.
So far this month, I’ve given away 70 books, and sold 7. Given that I’ve had months, as I’ve mentioned before, where I gave away nearly 700 copies and sold 2, I’ll take this month as a far better month.
Looking at this month, I’m not 100% sure I’ll make my $100 in 6 months goal. We’re sitting at $81.66. This is by far one of my better years. I’m excited for the trend. I’ve made more than 15% of my lifetime earnings in this year alone. It’s all thanks to readers like you.
One thing I’ll be doing toward the end of this year is releasing V&A Shipping book 3. I’ll be having a huge sale on all the books in that universe. I’ll also be rebranding the series to V&A Universe. Each series in that Universe will be in the correct reading order. I’ve been giving this a lot of thought, and I think this will help readers realize which book comes next in the series.
I realize this is a lot of talk, but behind the scenes, there’s been a lot of activity. I know there are so many authors out there and it warms my heart to know you found me, follow along with this story, and support what I’m doing. It means the world to me. Hopefully this story only gets more interesting from here.
I’m off to write some words in Jack Kane 3.
Until Next Time!

Pizza debacle

Yesterday the Mrs and I ordered some pizza from Dominos. I won’t go into what happened, but suffice to say, after 2 hours waiting for the delivery guy to show up, I went and got it myself and we reheated it here at home.
It wasn’t good.
I did, however, want to talk about my time at Dominos back in the day.
In the summer, I knew I needed a job so I could have some spending money. I had limited skills, so I went to work at Dairy Queen. After a few months, I didn’t realize that DQ in Minnesota closed in the winter time. Once it was “too cold for ice cream” (I mean, what?) they closed for the season.
I needed another job. I wasn’t going to go without. Sheesh. I needed walking around money. How else was I going to buy my blueberry muffin every morning? The school cafeteria had the BEST blueberry muffins, hot out of the oven every morning. I was always there early enough to partake and partake I did.
So, I walked next door to DQ and talked to the manager at Dominos.
“What can you do?” I was asked.
“Whatever you need me to do.”
So, I boxed pizzas for a week. Then moved to taking orders over the phone and in person.
Side Story: We had a guy show up on Friday and said “Look, I know this is going to sound stupid, but I don’t get paid until Tuesday. I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a pizza today.” The manager OK’d it and they guy left, happy with his pizza. So happy that when he came back, he left us a tip for the amount of the pizza. We never saw him again after that. Perhaps he ordered delivery.
After a few weeks being there, I was moved to making pizzas. The main pizza maker wasn’t there. Pfft, I had watched a few times. I’d made my own because it looked like fun. I was fast enough to keep up. I mean, get the order, put on the correct toppings, put it in one end of the oven, someone else takes it out later.
It wasn’t horribly difficult. I wasn’t the fastest, but I was fast enough.
So much so, that on slow days, I’d take orders, make pizzas, and box pizzas. Yeah, a 17 year old running everything while the manager was out doing deliveries. If things ever got bad, I’d stop him when he came back so he could help me get caught up.
I was only there for a few months, and I enjoyed my time making pizza. It was a good job, but I preferred working at the DQ. Though I had all the pizza I could eat when working (errors went into the back and were free to eat) I liked getting a free Ice Cream every day more. It was a toss up, but DQ was also a little slower and easier compared to the constant running around at Dominos.
I worked a LOT of jobs while I was in high school. Some day I’ll cover more of them.
The reason I’m typing all this out, I wasn’t upset it took over 2 hours to get my pizza. I wasn’t mad. I didn’t go there fuming and demanding my money back. I’ve been there before. I know how thankless the job can be. I know many that work there are high school kids and it might even be their first job. They’re doing the best they can. I hope others that were outside waiting for their pizzas had the same attitude. The couple of folks I talked too were of a similar mindset.
Until Next Time!
Stay Awesome (and tip well)!
